Nevermore…and an Announcement

Greetings! ‘Tis Friday yet again (hooray!), which means it’s Smeared Ink day for me. I have announcement in regards to my Fridays… This will be my last post as a part of the Smeared Ink Design Team. My Co-Captain Kelli and I have decided to step down from our positions. We will not be returning to Smeared Ink for the next term. It was a very difficult decision for both of us, but we think it’s for the best. However, we will miss our fellow DT members dearly. They are all very special and important to us.

But on to my card… I decided to use one of my favorite Smeared Ink sets for this post…”Quoth the Raven.”

I stamped the hearts in the background with a deep blood red. Then I added the “Nevermore” on top. And I inked and embossed the edges.

On a separate piece of cardstock I stamped the collage image included in the set and embossed that as well. I used a color from Color Box called Lava Black. It’s a beautiful black with a reddish tinge to it. I tore the edges around the image and inked them.

After I adhered the collaged image, I used some tan chalk and chalked over the white of the card.. It aged the card nicely. It was a simple card to make, but I think it has a lot of impact.

I will still be an active participant of at Smeared and Smudged, and I of course will still be using my Smeared Ink stamps frequently. I will miss my team…but who knows what the future holds? Never say never… ;)

I totally spaced my last post but I hope to make up for it today..
I have a little tutorial to share and a finished project..

first..
I painted a wooden frame I got at a thrift store.. I love recycling!

then I had some embossing powder.. so I used it :)

I randomly dropped it on.. and burned it..

any excuse I can get to play with fire.. I'm allll over it!

Smudgefest- Coming Soon!!!

Hello Smudgy Antics fans! We have some fabulous news coming your way. Soon we will be introducing a weekly challenge to the blog to allow you even more ways to get your smudge on! To kick it all off, we are hosting a week-long challenge extravaganza called Smudgefest!

Each morning we will post a different challenge theme and participants will have until midnight to post their project for that day's challenge. The daily winner will be announced the next morning along with the new challenge theme. Daily prizes will vary from gift certificates to coupons to free digis.

The fun thing about it is, at the end of the seven days we will be drawing for a grand prize! In order to qualify, participants must have posted entries in all seven challenges. The grand prize will consist of 17 digi sets, worth $275!! This is huge for us and is the biggest prize we have ever given away!



We look forward to this week long fun fest, and we hope you will join us on August 1st to help us kick it off!!!

Product Pandemonium: A Tutorial!

A few weeks ago, I was uber lucky to win a custom drawn did by Christy Croll from Tiddly Inks! It took me a while to figure out what I wanted (thank goodness for Christy’s patience!) but we finally worked it out to be a witch (no big surprise, right?) with a crow as her familiar. I chose a crow for a whole lot of reasons, and I thought he would make the perfect companion for my little witch. I must tell you, that I ADORE the way she came out! And I love that it was a collaboration of sorts. It was truly wonderful, and I am honored to introduce you now to “Witch Alison!”

Seriously, isn’t she awesome?!? Don’t you want her for yourself??? Fingers crossed (and perhaps a kind email or two) that Christy will release her in the Fall! This first version (of many, many more to come!) was done entirely with markers. All watercolors sans her skin (Copics).

Of course, I couldn’t leave her unmounted…so I created this card for her. Along with a tutorial just for YOU!!! Here is the completed card:

There are many, many layers and products used for it. Wanna learn how to do it yourself? Here we go!!!

I’m calling this “Product Pandemonium,” because I used lots of things to create this look, but if you don’t have all of the things I used, have no fear! You can still make something rad using less layers! Here’s what I used:

Chalk, Stamps (clear and rubber), Versa Mark Ink, Glue Pad, Pigment Ink, Glitter, Glimmer Mist, Glimmer Screen

Here are some of the product I used. As I was making the card, my original plan (which was to just use chalk, stamps, and Versa Mark), morphed into the completed project.

I of course had Witch Alison colored and cut out beforehand.

I started off by using Smeared Ink’s Urban Decay set. This set is a total must have! I inked it well with Versa Mark. The stamp I’m using is the one you see in the watermarked sheet at the bottom.

I stamped it several times over the entire card, trying to get the images to blend as seamlessly as possibly. You can’t really see this in a photo since it’s a clear ink, so you’ll have to take my word for it. ;)

Then I went in with my chalk. I used Chalklet Puffs (from EK Success) to apply the chalk. You can use a Q-Tip, but they break down pretty fast. You can see the texture from the stamp showing through. Please click on any of my photos to see it bigger.

Then I moved on to purple. See how cool the image looks?

After I finished that, I decided that I still needed more texture. So I went back in with a different Urban Decay stamp and added it to where there’s negative space.

I chalked it with grey. See it? It’s like tire treads.

Lookin’ good…but it still needs more. Enter Glimmer Screen and Mist.

I used the color Raven (no really. That’s what it’s called!), with my Halloween tree Glimmer Screen. Sprayed it 2x. You can see the screen in the top right. Now this covered the chalky goodness I created  a wee bit more than I would have liked. I should have kept the spray closer to the card to get a more concentrated spritz. But, it still looks cool.

Then I stamped the tree (it’s made to go with the screen) using purple pigment ink. You don’t want to place it directly on top of the non-sprayed area…slightly off center is what you should be going for.

Next, I grabbed my Smeared Ink Quoth the Raven set, and pulled out this harlequin pattern. I inked it using the 2 greens you see here. This ink is from Color Box. I don’t know what I would do without them. I have 5 of these sets. I use them on everything!They’re called Petal Points.

I stamped them a couple of times and then added the “Quoth the Raven” sentiment to the bottom. But it still needs more!!!

I broke out my Glue Pad and some super fine lavender glitter and went to town. Inking and glittering random spots around the edges. While I did all of these steps, I kept placing Witch Alison on to the card to see where I wanted to add things, and if I needed to keep going. See how sparkly it is?

After I glittered the card up, I decided it was just about finished. I added a mess of pop dots to Witch Alison, and stuck her on to her new home.

And here she is again, completed. What do you think? Really, this tutorial is all about playing with those fun products you have laying around. You don’t always need to add a bajillion expensive 3D embellishments. Use those tools that you have…ink, sprays, stamps, glitter, to create fabulous backgrounds. Grumpie Get Well

For today's card, I used a Grumpie from the Lil Love Grumpies digi set to send a Get Well greeting to a grumpie from the Lil Grumpies Occasions set. The front panel was printed wallet size on gray cardstock, colored with colored pencils, cut and mounted to fluorescent yellow cardstock, torn to deckle edge and mounted on black cardstock.

The middle panel was stamped on yellow, blue, and orange cardstock with Palette Hybrid ink in noir black. The blue was cut out and mounted, then the orange fish was cut out and mounted on that. Highlights were added with colored pencil and the base was torn to a deckle edge, then mounted on the black cardstock. The black cardstock is 5" by 11" and folded trifold. The third panel has a yellow block and says "Get Well Soon". Enjoy!

Smeared Ink Saturday with Lady B

Here it is!  Preview Day 2 for Smeared Ink's Halloween Release!  I, as well as some of the other DT members from yesterday's hop, will be previewing Smeared Ink's new release images over the next few days.

Today's project uses images from the "Calaveras" digi stamp set and a sentiment from the "Zombie Pinups" digi stamp set.  I colored the images digitally, but they can easily be printed out and colored or painted with the medium of your choosing.  The papers used are from Crafty Chaos Designs.

Never Ending Grumpies

Today is my Smeared Ink day and I played in my craft room all weekend...didn't even get out of my pj's it was great!
and now I give you....a Never Ending Grumpies card


the paper I made with a tree stamp from Tattered angels, and some glimmer mist...I stamped all my grumpies and colored them with colored pencils, then put some liquid glass on their eyes...stamped all my different senties and there I have it...it really didn't take to long...I had so much fun making this...I found a video tutorial on Terra's blog last year sometime when I made my Never Ending Angels card...I hope you enjoyed looking at this as much as I enjoyed making it:)

Smeared Ink is having a Design Team Call!

Do you have a different way of looking at things when it comes to rubber stamping? Smeared Ink is looking for Design Team Members to join the Smeared and Smudged team.

Smeared Ink is a rubber stamp company that features edgy, unique, wild, sometimes dark, and fun art stamps and digis. We're looking for team members who are not afraid to think outside of the box and express themselves in interesting ways through their projects.

Requirements for Smeared Ink Design Team Members:



*You must have an active blog related to rubber stamping/paper arts or mixed media arts where you can post and talk about your Design Team projects.



*You must be or become a member of the Smeared and Smudged Forum on Ning. You can visit our forum at http://www.smearedandsmudged.ning.com



*You must be able to upload quality photos and/or scans of your projects.



*DT members are required to design a minimum of four items per month, including three cards or paper art (scrapbook pages, etc.) and one altered item. Two of these items must use Smeared Ink stamps exclusively. They must be posted on the design team blog AND your personal blog, and also be physically mailed in by the end of each month. (Please note if samples are not received by us each month, you may forfeit your free stamp set for the following month). The other two items can use any stamps and supplies that you like, and must be posted to the design team blog and optionally on your blog.



*DT Members are required to participate in and make a project for Smeared Ink New Release Blog Hops. These will generally occur every three months, but may also include special releases. During months that contain a hop, this will be a fifth required project.



* DT Members are required to submit at least one step by step tutorial per six month term. This can be written out with pictures, or can be a video tutorial. It should contain the use of at least one Smeared Ink stamp. The tutorial can be project or technique based.



* You must actively participate in The Vent group on the Smeared and Smudged forum. A minimum requirement is two posts a week. You must check and actively participate in the Design Team group on the forum.



* You must promote Smeared Ink Stamps thru your blog, and whenever you see an opportunity.



*International Applicants welcome.

Missing You Mermaid Postcard

Today I've created a postcard of the "wish you were here" variety. I used Daniel Smith 140# cold press watercolor postcard as the base and scribbled a little Karat Aquarell watercolor crayons dry onto it, then blended it with water. The image and sentiment is from the Smeared Ink carnies unmounted set, stamped with Palette Hybrid ink in Noir. The sea bits are die cut from Bazzill cardstock using Slice with the Under the Sea cartridge. The felt bits and rickrack are from a Simplicity Craft Studio set. The mermaid flesh is another of the watercolor crayons (peach) but the rest of her is colored in with Plaid Keepsake Colors gel paints. The sea was glazed with the gel paints. This left everything to bright so I added some denim dye ink from Posh Impressions to a little water in a spray bottle and sprayed over everything except the wave, then dabbed some off to add texture. Dragon day again

Its my turn to post this week so instead of Wednesday its Dragonsday.... and i've more POE to share. I adore Poe.... one of my lasses the other day asked me what 'Fascination' meant.... so i tried to explain and the best way i could come up with was my fascination for Poe.
This piece has been inspired by that conversation. I have used Poe and the fencing from SMEARED INKS 'QUOTE THE RAVEN' rubber stamp sheet..... its not the only set i own but it is probably my favourite...ok... no probably about it... it is my favourite.
The details are all on my blog..... but theres nothing clever involved...all basic stuff.

I'm Lost

D'oh!  I don't remember if it is my Saturday to post or not so I'm just going to post an oldie but goodie. 

Last month was the anniversary of losing a dear friend to Lung Cancer.  It's hard to believe it's been three years.  Billy, this one's for you!

I used images from Smeared Ink's "Holy City" rubber stamp set and colored them with Copic markers.  The sentiment is from Smeared Ink as well.
